Euro 2024 Betting: Venues and stadiums at the European Championship in Germany

Jul 26, 2023Jul 26, 2023 KarimBenkirane
After the 2022 World Cup, football fans can look forward to the 2024 European Championship at home. After the World Cup is before the European Championship. This scenario results from the rhythm: World Cup and European Championship take place every four years – always offset by two years. After the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which the DFB team and the football fans want to forget as soon as possible, Germany is before the 2024 European Championship at home. So there is reason for anticipation. This applies in particular to ten German cities. The 17th European Football Championship will be held from June 14 to July 14, 2024. It is officially called “UEFA EURO 2024”. 24 nations will take part in the Euro betting 2024. The mode results in 51 games that are played in ten German cities. The venues for the 2024 World Cup in Germany at a glance:
  • Berlin
  • Munich
  • Hamburg
  • Dortmund
  • Gelsenkirchen
  • Cologne
  • Dusseldorf
  • Frankfurt
  • Stuttgart

Euro 2024 Betting Venues & Stadiums

With the 2022 World Cup being held in Qatar in winter, schedules around the world had to be shifted. This will return to normal after the Euro 2024 betting. But then, due to the pandemic, EURO 2020 was postponed by a year, which nobody could have foreseen. Germany should therefore finally become a normal football festival again. We present the stadiums and venues where this will take place.

Euro betting 2024 Venues in Germany: Stadiums & New Stadium Names at a Glance

From June 14 to July 14, 2024, the European Championship 2024 will take place in Germany. This tournament is extremely important for world football – much more than was assumed when it was awarded. It marks the return to normal in international football. To some extent this was expected. Nine out of ten venues for the 2024 European Championship were also venues for the 2006 World Cup. The summer fairy tale began with the opening game in Munich. The German national team will also complete this at the upcoming European Championships in the Bavarian capital. The final of the Euro betting 2024 will then take place in Berlin. The Olympic Stadium in Berlin is also the stadium with the largest capacity at the European Championships in Germany. Compared to the 2006 World Cup, the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf has been added. But it will not be called that at the upcoming European Championships. Eight of the ten stadiums for Euro 2024 have been given new stadium names by UEFA. The background is that the sponsors’ names may not be mentioned. This results in some strange names. The stadiums of the EM 2024 at a glance:
  • Berlin : Olympic Stadium , 70,033 seats
  • Munich : Munich Football Arena , 66,026 seats
  • Dortmund : BVB Stadion Dortmund , 61,524 seats

Euro 2024 Stadiums by Population

When selecting the EM stadiums for the EURO 2024 finals, care was apparently taken to ensure that the largest cities (by population) were considered. It is played in nine of the largest cities in Germany. Only Gelsenkirchen is out of line, as it is “only” the 27th largest city in Germany. But of course the stadium plays the decisive role here with the Veltins Arena. Here is an overview by population:

The Largest Stadium of the EM 2024 in Germany

The Signal-Iduna-Park in Dortmund is actually the largest stadium of the European Championship. In regular operation, more than 80,000 people can be accommodated here. However, the capacity for international parties is reduced. Only 61,524 people are allowed into the stadium for international matches. Two other arenas can therefore pass. The largest stadium at EURO 2024 is the Berlin Olympic Stadium with a capacity of 70,033 seats. Second place goes to the Allianz Arena in Munich with 66,026 seats.

The Smallest Stadium of Euro 2024

The smallest EM stadium is in Leipzig. 42,600 people can be seated in this arena for international games. The capacity of the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf is slightly higher. 46,264 people can follow the matches of the EM 2024 here. In Cologne, the RheinEnergieStadion offers space for 46,922 spectators. Incidentally, these values are all higher in regular operation. They were all reduced for the EM for security reasons. Not only the largest, but also the smallest stadium will be found in the Topps sticker album of the Euro 2024 betting. It is to be expected that the successor to Panini will show not only the participating players but also all EURO venues as stickers.

Legendary & Modern EM Stadiums 2024

There is no shortage of legendary stadiums in Germany. This is not always necessarily a good thing. The most famous arena among the venues is probably the Berlin Olympic Stadium, opened by the Nazis in 1936 and where the final of the 2024 European Championships will take place. Second place goes to Signal-Iduna-Park (the former Westfalenstadion). The south stand of BVB fans is known throughout Europe. The Allianz Arena is also already legendary – after all, FC Bayern Munich plays here – and lost the Champions League final here in 2012. The Veltins Arena, which can be completely covered, is also a symbol of German football. Interestingly, however, none of the stadiums mentioned is the most modern. This honor goes to the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf. This was opened in January 2005 and modernized several times. The same applies to the other stadiums, or at least it should happen before the start of the tournament. Overall, the Allianz Arena is considered the best-equipped stadium of the tournament. This applies to parking spaces, security concepts, the quality of the seats and similar things.

How Were the Euro 2024 Host Cities Selected in Germany?

The DFB wrote an application. Cities could express their interest up until February 17, 2017, well before the start of the tournament or the EM 2024 qualifier. The condition was that they had stadiums with at least 30,000 seats available that meet UEFA category 4. 18 cities applied on time. However, Dresden, Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Kaiserslautern withdrew their applications early. A DFB commission evaluated the remaining arenas from different points of view, created a ranking and presented this to the association’s executive committee. That made the final choice. Bremen, Hanover, Nuremberg and Mönchengladbach got nothing.

These Games Will Be Played at the Individual Locations

There are a total of ten stadiums where the Euro 2024 betting teams will compete. This is two fewer than at EURO 2021. Therefore, the identical mode cannot be used. At that time, all arenas were considered with three group games and one knockout game. Wembley also received the semi-finals and the final. At the EURO 2024 betting, a total of six games will take place in Berlin, Munich and Dortmund, with the opening game of the EM 2024 being played in Munich and the final in Berlin. The two semi-finals will take place in Dortmund and Munich. Either 3 or 4 group games are played in each arena. The round of 16 and quarter-finals were divided among themselves, only in Düsseldorf and Berlin will there be both an EM 2024 round of 16 and a quarter-final. Games in a group are also only played in two different regions in order to keep the travel strain for players and fans small (here is an overview of all EURO groups 2024).
